All Aboard! We are building a new library in the Monroe/South Benton County, Oregon area. By using Monroe's historic train depot as a focal point at the new library we are bringing our community's past into the present. As in the past, train depots became a central meeting place in communities, our new library-with restored train depot-will continue in that tradition. We are a branch of the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library and we bring people and information together!

Great community meeting
We had a meeting last night with a great group of about 12 citizens interested in working on raising the funds to get a new library. The next step is to get the formal support of the Monroe City Council which we hope will happen next Tuesday night at 6 pm. A more lengthy report will be posted after that meeting.

Thanks to everyone who attended the community meeting last night! An extra special thanks to our guests from Alsea and Philomath. Your expertise and advise was much appreciated. It was wonderful to have the mayor and city councilor come over after their council meeting. I think it was encouraging to hear of the city's support in our efforts toward a new library in Monroe!
One other thing...I would like to invite everyone who attended the meeting to post comments on our blog. We would especially love to hear your thoughts...if you thought of someone who would be interested in bookkeeping for us or maybe you would like to be our historian? Or, if you are one of our patrons who couldn't make it to the meetings, let us know what you are thinking...Let us know on the blog!
